1. Letters and Their Sounds
The alphabet has 26 letters, each with its own sound. Words begin with the sound of their first letter.
Moon begins with M. Sun begins with S.

2. Letter Sounds
Each letter makes a sound. We build words by blending sounds together.
c-a-t blends into cat. d-o-g blends into dog.
Vowels are a, e, i, o, u. Every word needs a vowel sound.
Try this: Blend the sounds s-u-n. What word is it? (sun.)
