WeLearn is an educational platform operated by CRM Jamaica ("we", "us"), based in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica. This policy explains what information we collect through the WeLearn website (1curriculum.org, 1caribbean.org) and the WeLearn Android app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We designed WeLearn for students in Grades 1-13 and the parents, guardians and teachers who support them, and we take the privacy of children especially seriously.
Account information. When a parent, guardian or teacher creates an account we collect a name, username, password (stored only as a salted hash), and optionally an email address and phone number. Student accounts are created with a name, username, password and grade level. We do not require a student email address.
Learning activity. We record lesson views, quiz attempts, scores, streaks and badges so that students, and the guardians linked to them, can track progress.
Technical information. Our servers keep standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. Sessions are maintained with an essential, httpOnly cookie.
Donations. If you choose to donate, payment is processed by Stripe or PayPal. We never see or store full card numbers; we keep the donor name, email, amount and payment reference for receipts and accounting.
Student sessions show no advertising. Sponsor and promotional content is suppressed for all student accounts.
Analytics are disabled for students. Google Analytics loads only for signed-in adult (guardian/teacher) sessions, never for students.
Minimal data. Students need only a name, username, password and grade. Guardian accounts link to student accounts through consented link requests.
We collect from children only what is needed to provide the learning service, and we do not sell or share children's personal information for marketing. If you believe a child has provided personal information beyond this, contact us and we will delete it.
We use the information above to operate accounts and sign-in, deliver lessons and quizzes, show progress to students and their linked guardians and teachers, send service emails (such as welcome messages, password resets, weekly progress reports and donation receipts), keep the platform secure, and comply with law. We do not sell personal information to anyone.
We share information only with service providers who help us run WeLearn - hosting (Amazon Web Services), email delivery, and payment processing (Stripe, PayPal) for donors - and only what each provider needs. Linked guardians and teachers can see the progress of their linked students. We may disclose information if required by law.
We keep account and progress data while an account remains active. You may request deletion of an account and its associated data at any time at 1curriculum.org/delete-account.html. Once verified, accounts and associated personal data are deleted from our live systems within 30 days; residual copies in backups are purged on our normal backup rotation. Donation records are retained as required for accounting and legal obligations.
All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify affected users of any breach as required by law.
Consistent with the Jamaica Data Protection Act, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and object to processing. Contact us using the details below and we will respond promptly. If you are a parent or guardian, you may exercise these rights on behalf of your child.
If we make material changes we will update this page and the effective date above, and where appropriate notify account holders by email.
